I started this site for two primary reasons.\u00a0 My first and foremost reason was that I loved reading to my sons and I wanted to create a record of the things we enjoyed most.\u00a0 I also love children’s books (I always have) and sometimes people ask me for recommendations.\u00a0 When they do, I often got completely tongue-tied;\u00a0 there were so many great options I didn’t know where to begin.\u00a0 I hoped this site would help me provide more useful information (and it has).<\/p>\n
It’s been a long time since my boys were the best ages for reading aloud, so this blog is now a snapshot of a time that has passed, rather than an ongoing project.\u00a0 It was an absolute pleasure throughout.<\/p>\n
The site’s name refers to Groucho Marx’s observation that “Outside of a dog, a book is a man’s best friend. Inside of a dog it’s too dark to read.”<\/p>\n
