Boot & Shoe

Two dog brothers and best friends do lots of things together (eating, sleeping, peeing), but one is a front porch kind of dog and the other is a back porch kind of dog. When a squirrel “gets all up in [their] business,” things get confused and the dogs miss each other terribly until the very funny happy ending.

This one was especially popular with my youngest. And I always enjoy the work of Marla Frazee, who has a sub-specialty in showing things in motion (as she did in Roller Coaster and Santa Claus the World’s Number One Toy Expert) and outdoes herself here. (Speaking of motion, is it possible that one of Those Darn Squirrels! is making a guest appearance here?)

Those Darn Squirrels Fly South

Genius squirrels follow wintering birds to a tropical paradise. Will their grumpy friend Old Man Fookwire be far behind?

Like the first book in this series, Those Darn Squirrels!, it is difficult to read this book once; as soon as it is done, the boys ask me to read it again. Since they are laughing their heads off for much of the book (no matter how many times we read it), I’m happy to comply.

Those Darn Squirrels!

Old Man Fookwire has only one pleasure in life: painting birds. But some clever squirrels have invaded his beautiful birdfeeders. What happens next is not what you would expect.

This very funny book is a great read aloud. We first read it at a local library and ordered a copy as soon as we came home.
